Created by Lia Griffith, Papier Couture is an imaginative fusion of fashion and art. Utilizing designed and cut prints to form carefully constructed paper dresses, Lia's creations offer an exhilarating new look at inspiration, innuendo, surprise and delight. "This collection gives me the opportunity to push the edges of fashion; blending costume and couture with the unexpected medium of paper to create a new form of expression."
Abundance. Passion. Freedom. Peace. Creativity. Wisdom. Illumination. Lia Griffith's Venus Collection consists of seven sculptural dresses that explore the energies of the chakras and feminine archetypes. Remixing the artwork of Sean Moran with typography and photography, each dress communicates a unique conceptual and visual depth, along with an explosive use of color.
The Venus Collection debuted with a runway show at The Art Institute of Portland on September 6, 2006. The beautiful dancers from the Oregon Ballet Theatre masterfully glided in the paper sculptures to chakra-tingling music, a visual and aural feast. After this jaw-dropping event, the collection remained viewable to the public for the month of September at the Art Institute.
Since then, the collection continues to appear in shows throughout the Pacific Northwest. In addition to the dresses, the show also features the artwork of Sean Moran and fashion photography of the Venus Collection by Manny Minjarez.
